Since America’s birth, democracy and economic imperialism have been in combat for control of the nation. Although posed as partners, they are mortal enemies. If one wins the other dies.
Democracy is rule of, by, and for the people. It is grounded in the citizenry’s equality of worth and intends their common good. All agencies of government and all institutions are instructed by this goal and all freedoms are limited by it. It gives full support to a free press. It champions democratic purpose wherever in the world it is called forth. Patriotism is viewed as allegiance to this unqualified posture. Democracy is a view of reality that sees through the eyes of equality and the common good.
Economic imperialism is rule by a small wealthy oligarchy. Its only goal is profit making. Everything it controls is converted to this purpose including democracy. It wishes for unrestrained freedom to accomplish this goal which is what it means by free enterprise. It is fond of disguising itself as the American Dream, as capitalism, as social freedom, and as the benefits of the culture. Social worth is measured by economics. Patriotism is viewed as whatever activity increases profit. It is despotic – rule by the few over the many. Economic imperialism is a view of reality that sees through the eyes of the dollar $ign.
In the mid- eighteen-hundreds, democracy rose up to challenge economic imperialism’s control of the nation. This challenge erupted in the Civil War. The focus of this war was the unity of the states and the worth of the black male population. Behind this focus was economic imperialism’s disregard for both national unity and non-white human worth. Militarily and politically, democracy won this war. However, economic imperialism’s democratic disregard persists in the social order.
We are in a new Civil War which outcome will be as equally decisive as the first one. It is about which of these ways of seeing will control America’s government. And it will determine the nation’s character and destiny. Now is the time to understand our national plight and respond with a winning game-plan that will empower us citizens to win this battle by ballots rather than bullets.
This book enables this winning by providing the following:
- It clearly defines the opposing forces of democracy and economic imperialism.
- It exposes the two deadly ideological enemies of democracy that foster economic imperialism.
- It shows how economic imperialism has expressed itself on the national and international stages.
- It indicates how to recognize economic imperialists in whatever guise they might appear.
- It offers gauges for determining the strength of democracy and economic imperialism in their battle for national control.
- It reveals how and when a democratic revolution happens.
- It encourages hope for a victory of, by, and for the people.
Understanding these insights and engaging this game-plan can re-institute a people’s democracy in America.
